Mentoring initiatives within the charity sector

Kerrie Dorman

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that in 2020 I will be working closely with the fabulous leadership coach and business mentor Nicki Deeson on mentoring initiatives within the charity sector.

With a lifetime of experience within the charity sector, most recently as International Finance Director at Amnesty International, Nicki brings with her a wealth of knowledge in strategic leadership, growing and retaining talent, financial control, managing complex projects and change management.

Nicki’s mentoring work during her time at Amnesty International made a significant positive impact on the direction of her team and their long term success. Nicki says:

“Transforming your staff will bring greater impact to every area of your organisation. While I was Finance Director at Amnesty International, a staff survey showed my team needed transforming. They were demotivated, expressing a desire to find a new job with better management support and more control over their own areas.

After implementing a mentoring programme over a period of 18 months, staff turnover fell, we filled more of our senior vacancies internally, and the team’s service and impact ratings shot up in our annual “How are finance doing?” survey. We were also proud to win the ‘Third Sector Finance Team of the Year’ award.”

Nicki is a Full Member of the Association of Business Mentors and visiting lecturer at Cass Business School where she speaks about coaching and well-being for their Inspiring Leadership Programme. She is also a Fellow of ICAEW.

Nicki’s previous roles include, Chair of the Charity Finance Group, Head of Finance at the Alzheimer’s Society and Corporate Strategy and Impact Manager at Plan International.

For more details about Nicki’s mentoring and coaching work please see her website here.
